Feedback on past activities

November 2005 Panel Discussion – How to work with FMs

Majority – do again

Suggestions:

Round tables

Get more professional members to attend

Same time frame but ½ hr for panel then break into table discussions.  Have professional at each table; follow with wrap up.  Would need moderator at each table so professional does not become overwhelmed

Showcase – January 2006

Of the 5 exhibitors presents, several commented it was not worth time and effort to exhibit.  One would not exhibit again.

IF it was to be done in 2007, the group decided that January would be the best time

Survey results should be published

Westfac – April 2006

Those that exhibited had varying degrees of success at the event

Most agreed there were not as many decision makers there

Want more break out time for exhibitors, i.e. lunch at exhibit area

Suggestions:

Have the reception in the exhibit room to increase exposure

Don’t allow vendors in for free – not fair to exhibitors

Charging a nominal fee might help keep people out that just go around collecting give-aways

Future Activity Suggestions

Networking:  Primarily done at monthly meetings that are perceived as not well attended by FMs.

Yearly surveys show that professional members prefer different venues and tours to same venue (hotel).  They prefer evening event.  However, they are not coming out for the meetings.  It was noted that they did come out for the Disneyland lunch event (IFMA OC subsidized that lunch. That was a BARGAIN)

Format is stale – need to bring new excitement into the meetings, i.e. new topics, lunch rather than dinner. The FMs say they want evening events with tours but they are not showing up. Reasons could be they are busier, more work, traveling.

Suggestions for the Program Chairman

Professionals need to speak with professionals to know what interests them

Paper newsletter as another marketing vehicle

Contact big names in the profession and ask them to speak and/or recommend a hot topic

Add value to program with CFM credit – Jean to follow up

Action Item

Four people volunteered to call their largest client(s) who are well known in the industry and ask them to suggest a topic and or industry leader they would recommend for an IFMA OC event.  Results will be emailed to the Association Office for compilation and forwarded to the Board and the program chair  as suggestions for next year’s events.  Action item is to be completed by the end of May.  Thank you for volunteering:  Betty Pickett; Tom Gilchriese, Jennifer Corbett-Shramo and Jeff Kothe.

At the end of June Jennifer is spearheading an IFMA Foundation event with Steve Ashkin speaking on LEEDS.

Monthly Tabletop Sponsors:  Lucy shared how she had received business from being a tabletop sponsor.  She encouraged everyone to participate.

Next Year’s Committee

The Associates Forum meets quarterly.  Lucy is stepping down from the position.  If you are willing to serve in this capacity, please email Jean at the Association Office or email Mike Darger, in-coming President at mdarger@ckr.com

Committee chairmen are needed for the many committees.  They are listed in the front of the directory and Lucy encouraged attendees to participate.

Suggestion:  The first meeting of the fiscal year the Associates Forum should be a strategic planning meeting.  The chair will bring back the overall strat plan and the Associates can develop their own strategic and implementation plans to compliment and enhance the chapter’s goals and objectives.

Roundtable - Each attendee was encouraged to express their best idea or comment.

Christmas cocktail party hosted by the Associate members-informal, casual, 5-7:30 p.m.

Associate member to be a liaison on the program committee and possibly even the education committee.

Revamp the Chapter’s strategic plan meeting.  Make it open and invite the membership.  Also, open the doors of the executive committee to more input – currently too exclusive

Mix up programs to include fun things as well as education events

Telephone tree to remind everyone of meetings.  Hospitality current tries to do that each month.

Everyone thanked Lucy for doing such a fine job at the Associates Forum Chairman.

It was announced that Jean would be leaving IFMA OC as of June 30.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:40 p.m.

Meeting Suggestions for the Program Committee:

IFMA's next monthly meeting luncheon is the same date and time as IREM. Several people wanted it brought to the attention of the programs committee.

It was suggested to Spotlight one Associate Member on each biweekly newsletter to talk about their services. Question was asked who do pick?

Would like the President of IFMA-OC to stand up at each meeting when he is starting the meeting and ask "Are you using your Directory? Support your Associate Members, give them the opportunity to present their services to you or bid on jobs.

The Cruise Idea has been scrubbed due to cost, but might try to resurrect it for the year 2007. Put a survey out and see if we find enough interest.

Suggestion of a networking event at Fontana - Richard Petty Driving Experience. Cost about $100.00 per driver. Associate members could sponsor professionals if they wanted to or just experience it themselves.

Holiday Happy Hour suggested by Betty Pickett and Nellie Carlen. $50.00 per sponsor to cover hors 'deourvre and no host bar. This will need board approval prior to moving forward.

Jennifer Corbett said she would be chairperson for an Extreme Networking meeting. Also stated that any proceeds from the E.N. goes to the foundation. This is an issue that needs board approval before the committee moves forward.

SHOWCASE TIME!  Announced January's "Showcase" and 12 people at the meeting committed to a sponsorship table.  Bob Brans voiced his concerns over space and suggested that we should limit the number of tabletop sponsors.  There was discussion about the event speaker with a particular concern about cost.  Kathy Reid is working on getting a speaker; comments or helpful suggestions should be directed to her.  Doug Green is working on a flier to hand out at the next meeting. Renee Potter said she would help with the invitation and coordination of space at the event.  Lucy will approach Trish to see if she might be able to send her space planner over to measure and come up with the best layout.

Directory is just about full.  If someone would like to volunteer as the directory postage sponsor, the cost will be approximately $350.00.

Discussed developing a survey of professional members to see how many associate member services do they use and who they use.

Panel discussion is set for Nov. 9th at the Register Building. Ron Moyer handed out a form for Associate members to fill out with the kind of questions they want to ask or be answered by the panel of Professionals at meeting.

Next meeting Jan.10 2006, time or location not determined yet. The meeting adjourned meeting at 1:35pm.

Extreme Networking Lunch Recap
By Jeff Kothe, Archoustics   5/13/04

The IFMA-OC Associate members were treated to an exciting and eventful networking luncheon on Thursday, May 13. Jennifer Corbett-Shramo of Pacific Building Care, who is the Chapter liaison for the IFMA Foundation, organized the occasion for the Foundation. 56 people arrived at the beautiful Balboa Yacht Club on a sunny afternoon to interact with fellow IFMA OC Strategic Partners in an effort to increase awareness of each member’s products and services. There were also four professional members on hand to meet new vendors and possibly provide some of them with new business contracts.

The first hour of the meeting was spent "Building An Extreme Network." Upon arrival attendees were given a networking form with 20 different professional categories listed. The objective was to fill out the form with the appropriate names of those who were participating. For instance, Tim Pine of Cor-O-Van Moving was a correct entry under the "Moving" category, and Aleta Cannon of Associates Purchasing fit under the "Furniture Dealer" category.

Raffle tickets were awarded according to how many correct names were collected. Members were given 5 tickets for completing the entire form, 3 tickets for collecting 15 or fewer names, 2 tickets for 10 or fewer names, and 1 ticket for only 5 names or fewer. A gift basket of cookies donated by Bill Tucker of Seashore Construction was the prize raffled away.

A delicious chicken lunch salad was served once everyone was called to take a seat, and Jennifer spent a few minutes explaining the benefits of Foundation. The most important part of the event followed, as each person was allowed to stand up and speak for 30 seconds about their companies’ products and services, along with a fun fact about themselves. Everyone learned exactly what the other Associates’ professions are and an interesting personal tidbit about each person.

The Extreme Networking Lunch will allow those who attended to open up their IFMA-OC directory and know profession of the majority of membership. Keeping other Associate members in mind throughout the course of business will hopefully generate more business for everyone, and form substantial professional alliances throughout the Chapter. Due to the success of the event, the IFMA Foundation Team plans on holding another luncheon in the next quarter.

Thank you to Jennifer Corbett-Shramo, Bill Conley and Anita Ciminesi, the West Coast Regional Foundation Team, Bill Tucker with the Associate Relations Committee, along with Jennifer’s staff at Pacific Building Care who helped organize the function; and to Cindy Bongiovanni and Sharon MacDougall representing the Hospitality Committee for helping out on the day of the event.

Meeting Recap
Date: Thursday, August 22, 2002
Recap:
In attendance: Bob Brans, Structural Materials Co; Dorothy Bisaha, ServProof Tustin; Barbara Steck, DMS Janitorial; J. Castagna, Seashore Construction; Alan Plotkin, Dry Guys; Jill Alciati, Commercial Interior Resources; Carolyn Thomas, Bentley/Prince Street; Bill Conley, CFM2;Anita Ciminesi, CFM2; Steve Warble, Dupont Flooring; Sharon Wirkki, Tangram Interiors; Jennifer Corbett-Shramo, Pacific Building Care

What are our thoughts about Member’s Choice? This is allowing all associates who have been on a waiting list to become members, and not having the current ratio of Associates to Professional Members. This officially opens membership in January 2003. Some thought this would simply open the FM directory out to everyone.  There is some concern that there would be of more of an imbalance of Associates to Professionals  Opening memberships could be a positive by new Associates bringing their FM contacts to meetings

How do we get more professional FM members to the meetings?  Interactive programs ie FM Feud, Hollywood Squares, Round Tables, Mini Expos. Possibly combine and event with BOMA or IREM. First time guest can be free of charge. Interesting locations i.e.: SOKA University, Ford Building, Edison Field, The Pond, etc. combined with a powerful speaker. High Rise Venue. The last ones were IBM & Pacific Life  Past luncheon venues were mostly attended by Associates.  Working on an IFMA committee historically will result in more business with the FM’s. Locate table tops near food and first glance from the entrance.

Tools that Associates can use to bring product information to the FM.  Use the 100 word description of your company. This can be e-mailed to Charlie Brown cbrown@comlock.com who will put it on the website.

Member Outreach: Jean has many badges of new members who have not attended one meeting. Each person at the breakfast agreed to hand deliver or call these FM’s for a personal invitation to one of the meetings before year end. The Associate will deliver their badge along with a free pass good for a meeting of their choice by DEC 31, 2002. The pass will be a sticker that is to be placed on the reverse side of the Associate's business card. As these new members use the pass, Jean will call the associate who delivered the pass to see if they would like to pay and sponsor the FM for the meeting.
